Drug rehabilitation Nevada
During the past forty years, rehabilitation for alcohol and other drugs in the state of Nevada has proliferated and differentiated into different clinical approaches. Speaking in a historical perspective, this is a short period of time for the evolution of a medical science addressing drug and alcohol addiction.
In the early days of drugs and alcohol treatment, from the end of the WW II until the 1960’s, rehab centers were commonly flophouses helping individuals addicted to alcohol medically withdraw from important inebriation. These rehab centers were providing bed-rest, Librium and a minor quantity of B12 and other vitamins. The purpose was to prevent DT’s (Delirium tremens) and seizures that could cause brain damage and/or death. The length of stay in these rehab centers extended from a few days to a maximum of two weeks.
Certain private centers in the state of Nevada would accept to keep alcoholics for longer periods of time, but these centers were usually wings of an existing hospital. The clinical imperative was focused on psychiatry and mental health disorders and addiction was seen as a secondary result of a primary mental disorder.
More recently, with the emergence of drugs like LSD, crack cocaine and methamphetamines, drug users require more successful clinical interventions than the alcoholics of the past. In Nevada, rehabilitation for drugs and alcohol has now become extremely diversified. The public needs to be aware of the various approaches that are now available to those suffering from a very different addiction than the alcoholism that was being “treated” in those early days.
Certain of these changes have brought about innovative treatment regimes that are proving themselves to be quite successful while others have assigned a label of disease to addiction. They are purporting that addiction is chronic and progressive.
Detox centers Nevada
Numerous residential treatment facilities throughout Nevada will not accept someone to their program until they have completed a Detox. There treatment centers are not staffed or equipped to handle the necessary medical precautions that are required during the first weeks after alcohol and drugs are no longer taken. It is always recommended to choose a rehab center in the state of Nevada that will be responsible for both the detoxification and the rehabilitation since the majority of individuals addicted to alcohol and drugs will believe that the Detox was all they needed. They will not be as willing to confront the emotional side of their addiction and will also be less likely to agree to continue their treatment, particularly if the treatment is done in two different facilities. Unfortunately, less than 5% of Detox graduates in Nevada will stay off of alcohol and other drugs.
There are two categories of Detoxification available in the state of Nevada.
Depending on the lenght, the amount of alcohol and other drugs taken and type of drugs used, someone might need either a social detox or a medical detox. A social model detox may only consists of confined bed rest and a staff taking vital signs to ensure that more intense care isn’t necessary. However, certain social model detox facilities are offering mega-vitamin therapy, massages, healthy nutrition and other holistic practices that will reduce the anxiety and discomfort of the patient. Therfore, the patient will be more agreeable to continue his clinical care once the detox is completed.
In the state of Nevada, medical detox is reserved for important alcohol ingestion and the chronic abuse of barbiturates and some other pharmaceutical drugs that are known to cause seizures. The person will need medical support to be stabilized from this form of addiction.
