Drug rehabilitation Montana

In Montana, drug and alcohol rehabilitation has proliferated and differentiated into many various clinical approaches confronting the addiction problem over the last four decades. In a historical perspective, 40 years is a short period of time for the evolution of a medical science addressing drug and alcohol addiction.

In the early days of drugs and alcohol treatment, rehab centers were commonly flophouses providing help to alcoholics who were medically withdrawing from severe inebriation.  The rehabilitation treatment consisted of bed-rest, Librium and a small quantity of B12 and other vitamins to prevent DT’s (Delirium tremens) and seizures that could cause brain damage and/or death.  The duration of these programs ranged from a few days to a maximum of two weeks.

A few private centers in Montana would keep alcoholics for extended periods of time. These centers were generally wings of an existing hospital and the clinical imperative was focused on psychiatry and mental health disorders with addiction being seen as a secondary result of a primary mental disorder.

More recently, with the abuse of drugs like LSD, crack cocaine and methamphetamines, drug users are needing more successful clinical interventions than the alcoholics of the past. Therefore, alcohol and drug rehabilitation has become extremely diversified in Montana. Consumers must be aware of the many approaches now available to those suffering from an addiction that is very different from the alcoholism that was being “treated” in those early days.

These changes have brought very innovative treatment approaches that are proving themselves to be successful, while others have assigned a label of disease to addiction and are purporting that this disease is chronic and only gets worse with time, even when the addict is in recovery and no longer using alcohol and other drugs.

Detox centers Montana

Several residential treatment facilities in Montana won't accept someone to their program unless they have been through Detox.  These treatment centers are simply not staffed or equipped to handle the necessary medical precautions that are required during the first weeks of drug and alcohol withdrawal.  It is always recommended to find a rehab center in Montana that will be responsible for both the detoxification and the rehabilitation since the majority of individuals addicted to alcohol and other drugs will feel that the week or two of Detox was all they needed. For this reason, they will not be as willing to confront the emotional side of their addiction and will be less likely to agree to continue their treatment if the treatment is done in two separate centers. Sadly, less than 5% of Detox graduates in Montana will remain sober.

Two categories of Detoxification are available in the clinical market in Montana.
According to the duration, the amount of alcohol and other drugs taken and the type of drugs abused, someone might either need a social model detox or a medical model detox.  Social model detox may only consist of confined bed rest and a staff taking vital signs to ensure that more intense care isn’t needed.  Nonetheless, some social model detox facilities will provide mega-vitamin therapy, massages, good nutrition and other holistic practices that will help reduce the level of anxiety and discomfort of the patient and get him to be more agreeable to continue his clinical care after detox.

In Montana, medical detox is required for important alcohol ingestion and the chronic abuse of barbiturates and other pharmaceutical drugs that are known to cause seizures. The individual will need medical support to be stabilized from this form of addiction.
