In Montana, drug and alcohol rehabilitation has proliferated and differentiated into many various clinical approaches confronting the addiction problem over the last four decades. In a historical perspective, 40 years is a short period of time for the evolution of a medical science addressing drug and alcohol addiction.

Marijuana is also smuggled into Montana across the Canadian border by smaller criminal groups. Methamphetamine manufacture and use remains the principal drug issue faced by law enforcement.
