Drug rehabilitation Idaho

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation has proliferated and differentiated into many different clinical over the past four decades in the state of Idaho. From a historical perspective, this is a short period of time for the evolution of a medical science addressing alcohol and drug addiction.

From the end of the WW II through the 1960’s, all rehab centers were basically flophouses providing suppport to alcoholics who were medically withdrawing from severe inebriation.  These rehab centers offered bed-rest, Librium and a small amount of B12 and other vitamins in order to prevent DT’s (Delirium tremens) and seizures that could lead to brain damage and/or death.  The duration of stay in these rehab centers ranged from a few days to no more than 14 days. 

In Idaho, private centers would keep alcoholics for extended periods of time. These rehab centers were generally wings of an existing hospital and their clinical imperative was based on psychiatry and mental health disorders with alcohol addiction being seen as a secondary consequence of a primary mental disorder.

Today, with drugs like LSD, crack cocaine and methamphetamines, drug users are needing more successful clinical interventions than the alcoholics of the past.

Therefore, more recently, alcohol and drug rehabilitation in Idaho has become extremely diversified and people need to be aware of the many various approaches now available to those suffering from an addiction that is very different than the alcoholism that was being “treated” in the early days of rehabilitation.

These changes in the field of drug and alcohol addiction have brought a very innovative treatment approaches that are proving themselves to be quite successful. Therefore, the individual will become more agreeable to continue his clinical care after detox. 

In Idaho, medical detox is necessary for important alcohol consumption and the chronic abuse of barbiturates and certain other pharmaceutical drugs that are known to cause seizures. In these cases, medical support is required in order to safely get off the drugs and alcohol.

There are 3,046 law enforcement officers, 8,900 individuals incarcerated in the state prisons and 35,670 residents on probation for a total population of 1,321,006 citizens in Idaho. The state ranks 42nd for its national violent crimes rate.

The Federal authorities seized 10.8 kgs. of cocaine, 0.1 kgs.of heroin, 6.9 kgs. of methamphetamine and 1,700.0 kgs.of marijuana in Idaho in 2004. There were also 42 clandestine meth laboratories seized that year in Idaho by the DEA, state and local authorities.

Mexican national poly-drug organizations dominate the majority of the drug trafficking organizations in Idaho. Methamphetamine, manufactured in and outside the state, is widely available. Controlled drugs are smuggled into Idaho via air and land routes from southwest border-states and Mexico. Marijuana and "Club Drugs" are also common in the state.
